8. Background and experience

Please briefly present your organisation.

YouthProAktiv (YPA) is an international youth organisation based in Brussels, Belgium, founded in 2014 by a group of young Europeans in response to the economic crisis, rising youth unemployment and the need for education systems to better prepare young people for social and professional life. From its beginnings, the organisation has aimed to promote a shift from a reactive to a proactive mindset, empowering young people to recognise and develop their talents, take initiative and contribute actively to their communities.

Today, YouthProAktiv works primarily with young people, youth workers, youth leaders and youth organisations across Europe and internationally. Its activities focus on non-formal education, entrepreneurship, employability, leadership, social inclusion, democratic participation and sustainable development. Particular attention is given to creating opportunities for young people with fewer opportunities and strengthening the capacity of youth workers and organisations to respond effectively to emerging social, economic and democratic challenges.

YouthProAktiv combines education, international cooperation and policy advocacy. The organisation designs and implements Erasmus+ and other European projects, including youth exchanges, training courses, capacity-building activities, educational resources and international mobility programmes. It also engages with policymakers, European institutions and civil society organisations to promote youth-inclusive policies and strengthen young people’s participation in decision-making processes.

The organisation is managed by an international team with complementary expertise in project management, education, youth work, advocacy, European affairs and international cooperation. Its work is coordinated from Brussels while maintaining strong cooperation with partner organisations and stakeholders across Europe and beyond.

9. Activities and experience

What are the activities and experience of your organisation in the areas it works in?

YouthProAktiv develops and implements European and international projects aimed at strengthening young people’s competences, participation and inclusion, while also building the capacity of youth workers and youth organisations. Its activities combine non-formal education, international mobility, capacity building, policy dialogue and the development of practical educational resources.

A significant part of the organisation’s work is implemented through Erasmus+ and other EU-funded programmes. YouthProAktiv organises youth exchanges, training courses, workshops, study visits, policy-oriented activities and international learning mobilities covering areas such as democratic participation, employability, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, sustainability, social inclusion and the professionalisation of youth work. These activities involve young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities, as well as youth workers, trainers, volunteers and representatives of youth organisations.

YouthProAktiv also has strong experience in policy advocacy and youth participation. It creates opportunities for young people to engage with European institutions, policymakers and civil society representatives, contribute to consultations and policy discussions, and translate their experiences into recommendations and advocacy messages. Through these processes, young participants are supported in understanding decision-making mechanisms and in developing the skills needed to participate more actively in democratic life.

Another important area of work is the development of educational methodologies, toolkits, practical guides and training resources that can be reused by youth workers and organisations beyond individual projects. These outputs are often complemented by capacity-building sessions, webinars, peer-learning activities and dissemination actions designed to ensure wider transfer and sustainability.

Through its international network and partnerships, YouthProAktiv reaches young people and youth professionals from a wide range of European and neighbouring countries. Its projects generate both individual-level results, such as stronger competences, confidence and participation, and organisational-level results, including improved youth work practices, new educational resources, stronger partnerships and increased capacity for international cooperation and advocacy.
