PRO ROMA is a non-governmental organization set up in September 2008 in response to the urgent need for social inclusion of the Roma community. The Pro Roma Association promotes quality education models that develop life skills among Roma people a sustainable development strategy, a society with a strong spirit of initiative, a special civic consciousness, and a true spirit of responsibility social. The PRO ROMA Association team is made up of different people, brought together by the following shared values: initiative, communication, philanthropic spirit, partnership development, equal opportunities, responsibility, integrated programs. The PRO ROMA Association has as main areas of interest the reduction of the educational gap between the Roma population and the non-Roma population, the improvement of the socio-economic situation of these communities, the promotion of the culture, the promotion of young Roma talents as a way of changing the image of the Roma. For their realization, the association proposes the following activities: promotion of young talents among ethnic Roma; training and professional orientation; community mediation; counseling, cultural activities. The philosophy PRO ROMA Association can be synthesized as follows: builds trust and skills, strengthens self-sustainability and ability to make its own decisions, encourages participation, democracy, action and analysis, supports development based on equal opportunities, human rights, without being influenced by political factors in working with local partners. The PRO ROMA Association seeks to build partnerships with other organizations and institutions that support the inclusion of ethnic Roma who recognize and respect each other's needs and interests, avoiding subordination relationships. Our participants come from the rural and urban peripheral environment, young people with social difficulties (being discriminated against for ethnic reasons), economic difficulties (low incomes, no job, dependence on social incomes), educational difficulties (low qualifications or drop out), differences cultural (ethnic Roma), but who want to assert themselves, to acquire skills to overcome their condition. The target group, is facilitated to develop a powerful profile and urged towards any non-formal activities, leading to a higher educational and cultural background, while targeting to further and broaden any employment skills and a final chance to social inclusion, through a general personal development.
9. Activities and experience
What are the activities and experience of your organisation in the areas it works in?
The PRO ROMA Association has experience in the following areas: 1. Education: Promoting education in disadvantaged communities, especially Roma communities, working with parents, teacher training and development of afterschool activities for children in order to prevent school abandonment. In this field we have implemented the project "SCoala aprOaPe noi (SCOP)", financed by Roma Education Fund Budapest, RO 095; I also participated as partners in the study on school segregation monitoring in the North-East region, implemented by CADO within the project "School for All Children" financed by SEE 2009-2014, ID C1.3_95 2. Culture: the cultural promotion of the Roma minority is the basis of organizational activity, the activities of this field being closely related to the activities of young people who actively contribute to their realization. Therefore, the experience in the field of culture is materialized by the implementation of the European project "History of minorities - an artistic approach to cultural diversity", financed by SEE 2009-2014, in partnership with the Iasi Municipality. The Association also participates annually at Roma cultural events such as January 27, "International Day for Remembrance of the Memory of Holocaust Victims", 8 April "International Roma Day", 18 December "Minority Day in Romania". Social services, vocational training and employment services reflect both the daily activities of the organization and the implementation of the European projects "A generation of Roma specialists in the medical field" POSDRU/96/6.2/S/62047, where the Roma Pro Roma association provider of training for grooming courses, health mediator and social worker; C 1920072X208812404936 / 04.12.2019 - the project "Festival of diversity - Pillar of multicultural development", aims to support the social inclusion of the Roma population, to strengthen the access of the general public to the culture of minorities and to determine a better understanding of cultural diversity, including local minorities. but also to strengthen intercultural dialogue. Through the activities of the project, the diversity and identity of the cultural communities, especially of the Roma population, will be supported, by organizing festivals, specific cultural shows on the territory of G.A.L. - The hills of Bohotin. 3. Entrepreneurship: the project "We Build Together Social Enterprise" POSDRU / 173 / 6.1 / S / 147653, the association as a partner recruited and placed on the labor market disadvantaged groups from the northeast region. 4. Promotion of young people: it is a continuous activity that interferes with other activities of the NGO, such as the ones in the cultural field, the young ones being the ones who give life, the activity of the association. Thus, for the young talents, an ample promotion campaign under the title "My world is your world" has been implemented to improve the image of ethnic Roma by promoting young talents in the community. Thus, the association produced a short film "Five and a quarter", with the participation of young students, realized the event "Painting on wood icons", where a young graduate of the Faculty of Theology, specializing in Art Sacra, respectively young violinist at the "George Enescu" University of Arts, Iasi. Moreover, there were recorded lauts songs in the interpretation of Ms. Rodica Ancuta (Nuca) and promoted on the association's website. 5. Increasing social inclusion and empowering the Roma PN1049: Gârceni: I decide!- Increasing the degree of social inclusion and improving access to integrated services (education, health, employment and activities related to empowering Roma and combating their discrimination) for a number of 840 people belonging to disadvantaged groups with similar living conditions (of which 760 ethnic Roma) from the disadvantaged areas of Gârceni commune, Vaslui county (Slobozia, Racovița, Trohan and Racova) for a period of 24 months. PN1040: Good governance and equal opportunities in Iana - Increasing the degree of social inclusion and improving access to integrated services (education, health, employment and activities related to empowering Roma and combating their discrimination) for a number of 1190 people belonging to disadvantaged groups with similar living conditions (of which 884 ethnic Roma) from the disadvantaged areas of Iana commune, Vaslui county (Iana, Siliștea and Recea) for a period of 20 months. PN1071: Integrated and social services for the development of disadvantaged people - Increasing the degree of inclusion and empowering the Roma from the Albești commune and the city of Săveni by developing integrated packages adapted to the identified needs, over a period of 24 months. 6. KA1 – Youth Exchange: PRO ROMA, as partner, together with Hungary, Germany and France, participated in a youth exchange organized by Fédération Léo Lagrange from 26 October to 2 November 2013 in Trélazé (France), within the project "Meeting on the numerical practice of young people", with activities proposed in the fields of solidarity between peoples, cooperation, cultural diversity, European citizenship. 2017-3-RO01-KA105-047070 - "Be professional in audio-visual", 60 young people from 6 European countries like Romania, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria and Macedonia have developed their audio-visual abilities ; have learned to create radio-TV shows, short films; have developed their creativity and understood that positive promotion of ethnic Roma in the context of social inclusion is necessary. 2019-2-RO01-KA105-064081 - Know the tradition!, the project follows that the 40 young participants in exchange, from 3 European countries such as Romania, Spain and Bulgaria become motivated and aware that they have the civic responsibility to keep and promote local traditions to include disadvantaged young people from rural and urban areas, to develop a continuous dialogue between generations, between nations, to affirm disadvantaged communities in the European space and their tourist, economic and cultural development. 2020-1-RO01-KA105-079206 - Be yourself–Be an entrepreneur!, the project aims to develop entrepreneurship among young people in rural areas. 2020-2-RO01-KA105-080538 - Photography, community story!, project that aims to train 42 young participants with civic skills and competencies in terms of public participation and influencing decisions for the benefit of their own communities. 2020-3-RO01-KA105-094916 - Acţi une şi rea cţi une faţ ă de bull ying , the project aims to promote methods of information and assistance to victims of bullying, by including those affected by bullying due to their environment or origin, social and cultural status and/or ethnicity. 2020-2-RO01-ESC11-080758 - Cross-Culture Cooperation and Solidarity - through the project of intercultural cooperation and solidarity, we aim to build a bridge of culture between young Roma and non-Roma, which will provide an example of fruitful cooperation, inclusion and responsibility for other people, communities and countries. 2022-1-RO01-KA152-YOU-000067364 - Communicate to include yourself! - the aim of the project is to help young people adapt their communication style to integrate more easily in different communities, managing to overcome certain obstacles of personality, culture or context, such as the economic one. 2022-1-RO01-KA152-YOU-000066430 - Respect Nature! – Act Green! - The main aim of the project is to raise awareness and develop new habits of reducing, reusing and recycling materials in order to achieve the goal of "zero waste". 6. KA2 – Small-scale partnerships in youth 2023-1-RO01-KA210-YOU-000161585: Together we create the path - The aim of the project is to develop the capacity of partner organizations to support the career guidance of young Roma and other minorities through transnational cooperation.
