Federación de Asociaciones Gitanas de Cataluña - FAGiC /Federation of Roma Associations in Catalonia

FAGiC (Federation of Roma Associations in Catalonia) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1991 to defend and promote the rights of Roma people, combat discrimination and antigypsyism, and strengthen the recognition of Roma culture, history and identity. Today, FAGiC brings together 87 Roma associations from across Catalonia and works directly with Roma communities, particularly young people, women and families, while cooperating with public authorities, educational institutions, universities, civil society organisations, companies and national and European Roma networks. FAGiC is governed by a Board composed of representatives of the Roma community and supported by a multidisciplinary professional team working across its different areas and projects. Its work combines grassroots community action with institutional advocacy at local, regional, national and European levels, ensuring that Roma people are not only beneficiaries of initiatives but active participants in the decisions and actions that affect their communities.

FAGiC has extensive experience in designing and implementing local, regional, national and European programmes aimed at improving the social inclusion, equality and participation of Roma communities. Our work covers five main fields: equality and community intervention, employment and training, health and women’s empowerment, youth and international cooperation, and Roma culture and historical memory.

Our programmes target Roma people of different ages and backgrounds, with particular attention to young people, women, families and people at risk of social exclusion. Activities include community mediation and social support, access to housing and public services, support for victims of discrimination and antigypsyism, personalised employment and training pathways, health promotion, women’s empowerment, youth participation and leadership, and the strengthening of Roma grassroots organisations.

FAGiC also has significant experience in European and international cooperation, developing projects on youth empowerment, historical memory, sustainability, discrimination, hate speech and political participation, while promoting exchanges of good practices and cooperation between Roma organisations across Europe. We combine direct grassroots intervention with advocacy and cooperation with public authorities, universities, schools, civil society organisations and European Roma networks.

Our territorial reach extends across Catalonia through our network of federated Roma organisations and professionals working directly with communities, while our European partnerships allow us to contribute to transnational initiatives and policy processes. In 2024 alone, FAGiC reached more than 4,000 people through its programmes and services, alongside more than 95,000 digital interactions. This combination of grassroots presence, institutional advocacy and European cooperation enables FAGiC to bring both professional expertise and the direct perspectives of Roma communities into the design, implementation and evaluation of projects.
