Active Cities Association

Uluslararası Aktif Şehirler Derneği is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting lifelong physical activity, exercise, and sports through innovative projects. It works primarily with young people to foster active citizenship, social inclusion, and volunteerism. The organisation offers project partners expertise in youth mobility, sports-based social development, and digital campaigning.

Looking for partners

We are seeking reliable international partners and strategic project opportunities across Erasmus+, Erasmus+ Sport, the European Solidarity Corps, CERV and Horizon Europe. Our main areas of interest include youth development, grassroots sport, digital literacy, social inclusion, volunteering, active citizenship, fair play and child protection. We aim to contribute to KA1 and KA2 projects—including Small-scale and Cooperation Partnerships in sport—collaborate with ESC Lead and Host Organisations to support volunteer mobility from Türkiye, participate in CERV projects as an associated partner, and join relevant Horizon Europe consortia. Our goal is to build sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships based on expertise, good-practice exchange and long-term cooperation.

About the organisation

International Active Cities Association, known as Active Cities, is a non-profit youth and sport association based in Istanbul, Türkiye, established in 2020 and registered with OID E10260618. We promote sport for all and lifelong participation in physical activity regardless of language, religion, geography, age, gender or race, and we work to raise quality of life by integrating sports culture with urban life. We hold the Erasmus+ Accreditation in the field of Youth for KA1 mobility of individuals, and we hold the European Solidarity Corps Quality Label covering sending activity. We cooperate on a standing basis with metropolitan and district municipalities, professional sport clubs and universities, and we run our own volunteer body, CityEagles, which supplies the young people and youth workers behind our activities.

Activities and experience

Since 2020 we have applied to more than ten European projects and delivered them as coordinator or partner across Erasmus+ KA1 youth exchanges and mobility of youth workers, KA1 youth participation activities, KA2 cooperation partnerships, Erasmus+ Sport, HORIZON, CERV and the European Solidarity Corps. Our activity fields are active cities and public space policy, sport as a tool for social inclusion, gender equality in sport, digital and information literacy, support for young people outside education and employment, and child safeguarding in sport. In practice this means international youth exchanges, training courses for youth workers, volunteering placements, local field studies with municipalities and the production of handbooks, policy documents and action plans that city administrations and clubs can keep using after the project ends.
